قَالَ الإمام أَبُوْ جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ الْبَاقِرُ عَلَیْهِ السَّلَامُ: بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ إِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَ إِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ وَ حِجِّ الْبَيْتِ وَ صَوْمِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ وَ الْوَلَايَةِ لَنَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ فَجُعِلَ فِي أَرْبَعٍ مِنْهَا رُخْصَةٌ وَ لَمْ يُجْعَلْ فِي الْوَلَايَةِ رُخْصَةٌ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مَالٌ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهِ الزَّكَاةُ وَ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ عِنْدَهُ مَالٌ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ حَجٌّ وَ مَنْ كَانَ مَرِيضاً صَلَّى قَاعِداً وَ أَفْطَرَ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ وَ الْوَلَايَةُ صَحِيحاً كَانَ أَوْ مَرِيضاً أَوْ ذَا مَالٍ أَوْ لَا مَالَ لَهُ فَهِيَ لَازِمَةٌ وَاجِبَةٌ.
Imam Muhammad Baqir (A.S) said: The basis of Islam is on five things:
1. Reading the Qur'an
2. Giving Zakat
3. Performing Hajj.
4. Fasting in Ramzan.
5. And to declare faith on Allah's oneness.
There is a leave in four things but there is no leave to have faith on Allah (such as) if someone has no money then he doesn’t need to pay Zakat and Hajj is not made compulsory on him and the person who is ill can sit down and offer prayers and fasting in Ramzan is not made compulsory on him but he needs to declare faith on Allah whether he is ill or healthy and whether he is wealthy or not.
